| Custom Horse Barns The original horse barn restored and the design are from horse barns and horse facilities built in the Sacramento area from the 1800's. Boarding stables features gabled roof, antique stained glass imported from England and brick isle ways. The Historic Nelson Ranch home is on the National Register of Historic Places est. 1868. Horse Stables include stalls for horses that are 12 x 12 or 13 x 13 with or without runs and include 1.5" rubber mats. Horse stalls have automatic waterer's. The brick provides traction for horses and can be wet down during hot summer days to cool barns. Horse boarding barns were positioned to catch the delta breeze at night. Horse stables include a fly spray system and fans are available in the summer and stall lights to keep horses coats down are available in the winter months. |
| Horse Barns have individual tack rooms for riders & grain rooms for horses supplements and additional horse feed and grain. Borders get their own large tack closet to safely store their horses saddles, riding equipment and tack in. |


| At the Historic Nelson Ranch, horses and boarding are our specialty and priority. Horses are feed twice daily at 7 am and 5 p.m. We only buy top quality hay. We offer your choice and combination of alfalfa, alfalfa/grass, rye or 3 oat mix. We purchase quality hay from local growers for the entire year, so horses have a consistent diet. Grain areas are available for safe storage of grain and supplements. We offer custom feeding programs tailored to your horses needs. |
| The Historic Nelson Ranch offers 5 large horse back riding arenas. All horse back riding arenas have sandy loom footing, which means no mud! The large outdoor arena is set up with return alleys and holding areas. The footing is excellent in this arena and is heat engineered to prevent packing, soft and allows horses to break over properly. The show jumping horse arena is has firmer sand footing. The large indoor has an all purpose sand footing. There is a trail arena. There is a CD / I-pod system for borders to play music while they ride their horses. There is a smaller 200 X 150 warm up arena for horses and 2 - 50' round pens with sand footing. There is easy access to riding trails along Cache Creek in the County of Yolo that extend into Sacramento County. |






| There are three 1.5 acre turnout pastures for horses. Irrigated and non-irrigated sand pastures are available for borders on-site to turn out their horses for exercise. There are shaded seating areas, hammocks including picnic areas to read and relax. There is also a horse hot walker to exercise or cool out horses.
